CITY AND PATRIMONY
Gerda became interested in drawing the city of São Paulo in 1957, therefore in the midst of the transformations brought about by the developmentalism of the 1950s. In 1978, she resumed work. But now, with the end of the “Economic Miracle” of the dictatorship, the winds were blowing back: we were starting the terrible path of decay. Poverty in the future and loss of the past. The future had been in the past, and the present seemed to show the chaos of the future. Gerda starts walking through the city, translating the result of its devastating modernity, of its changes now even more chaotic, trying to understand the truth that one day she resided in the past to which the ruins were now witnesses and the artist was her executor.
